McCoy named new principal of Orange Beach High School

HALEYVILLE - According to a Facebook post tonight by Baldwin County Public Schools, Dr. Erika McCoy, principal of Haleyville High School, has been named the new principal of the new Orange Beach High School.  She will begin her new post at the end of March.

Neal McCoy to headline 2019 Haleyville 9-1-1 Festival


Award-winning country music artist Neal McCoy will be the headliner for the 2019 Haleyville 9-1-1 Festival.

HALEYVILLE - The line-up of bands for Haleyville’s annual 9-1-1 Festival concert Friday, May 31, has been officially announced by organizer Brandon Norris.  The concert line-up is as follows: Fly by Radio will perform from 5-6 p.m., followed by 3 Wheel  Drive from 6:30-7:30 p.m., William Michael Morgan from 8-9 p.m. and headline act Neal McCoy beginning at 9:30 p.m.

Mudslides closing roads


The side of County Road 79 has collapsed at a culvert, due to a mudslide. The road is currently closed to thru traffic.
WINSTON COUNTY - The heavy rains of Tuesday, Feb. 19, have caused two mudslides thus far in Winston County, and more may happen as the rain continues this week.

Flooded roads being barricaded


An erosion issue due to heavy rains has caused a section of County Road 79 in Double Springs to be barricaded.
Due to extreme rain and flooding conditions certain roads in the Winston, Marion county  have been barricaded, and motorists are being urged to avoid these areas.

County petitions to close access to Caney Creek

BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - The Winston County Commission has petitioned the U.S. Forest Service to temporarily close access to the area of the Bankhead National Forest off County Road 2 leading to Caney Creek Falls due to parking, overcrowding from visitors and other related dangers.

Bear Creek Police vigilant about removing drugs from streets

BEAR CREEK  -  Police Officer Austin Lewis was in the right place at the right time, when he noticed a suspicious vehicle leading to the confiscation of methamphetamine, marijuana and the arrest of both the driver and passenger on Feb. 9.

HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville City Council's Feb. 4, meeting was preceded by a public hearing, where the owner of a popular restaurant asked the council for a tax abatement as her business grows.

Disagreements arise

Disagreements arose at the Monday, Feb. 4, Bear Creek Town Council meeting about paying for additional employees, as the town is facing an inadequate number of employees due to the massive amount of renovation work required to reopen Twin Forks Campgrounds.

Illegal parking at Caney Creek Falls entrance means being towed


Warning signs have recently been posted at the entrance site to Caney Creek Falls off County Road 2. This is due to a safety situation because there is not enough parking space nearby. Vehicles will be towed if parked illegally effective Saturday, Feb. 9.
ASHRIDGE - The Winston County Sheriff’s Office is combating a safety issue and issued a public service announcement concerning the parking issue at the entrance to Caney Creek Falls. Vehicles will now be towed if parked on the right of way of County Road 2.

DOUBLE  SPRINGS   -  A $400,000 grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs will be the major kickoff of a new manufacturing business opening in Double Springs in the facilities vacated by the relocation of Southern Homes back in 2014.
