Barnett charged with murder
PHIL CAMPBELL - Brittany Kaylen Barnett, 21, has been charged with murder in the Monday evening, Feb. 4, death of Jason Poore, 38, of Russellville. The crime allegedly occurred on County Highway 81 in Phil Campbell. According to a press release from Phil Campbell Police Chief Joe Fike, his department is conducting the homicide investigation, with assistance from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

Knight crowned Miss 9-1-1
HALEYVILLE - Bethany Knight, 19, of Hamilton, was crowned Miss 9-1-1 for 2019 in the annual competition held Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Haleyville Elementary School cafetorium. Knight, who is a freshman at the University of Alabama, competed against seven other young women from across the region for the title. The Miss 9-1-1 Competition is a preliminary to the Miss Alabama Competition, and Knight will now move on to compete for the Miss Alabama title in June.
