HALEYVILLE - The neighborhood improvement project for 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th Avenues is back on track in Haleyville after the council approved a low bid for the grant-funded work.
This is one of the three water tanks needing upgrades. It is just north of Arley on Firetower Road. The other two are located at Houston and Nesmith.
ARLEY - The Town of Arley is applying for a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant through Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs with help from the North Alabama Council of Local Governments. The majority of the grant will be used to clean and paint the area’s three water tanks. One tank is located in Houston, one at Nesmith and the other on County Road 52, or Firetower Road, just north of Arley.
MONTGOMERY - Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $339,281 grant to support a non-profit organization that assists domestic violence victims in Northwest Alabama.

BEAR CREEK - Needs throughout the Town of Bear Creek, which kept coming back to water issues, were the forefront of a public hearing Thursday, June 20, gathering public input towards a $350,000 Community Development Block Grant that will be used for overall community improvements.
The Winston/Marion County District Attorney's Office has confirmed to the Alabamian that a two-year-old child died over the weekend. The case is under investigation by the DA's office.
Authorities have not released the cause of the child's death. Winston County Deputy Coroner Tracy Yealock has not released the child's name due to the child's age.
The Alabamian will provide more details as they become available.
WINSTON COUNTY - The National Forests in Alabama, Bankhead Ranger District, is soliciting applications for a concession special use permit for the operation of two developed recreation sites, Clear Creek Recreation Area and Corinth Recreation Area.
WINSTON/MARION - An overnight storm system that quickly swept through the area left some tree and power line damage in its wake, resulting in power outages that are still ongoing.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - A resolution passed by the Winston County Commission Monday, June 10, increased rates for garbage collection service by $1.50 for a total of $14.75 per month for the service, with an additional $3 late fee applied each quarter to any rates that are not paid.
