WINSTON COUNTY - The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Alabama jumped to 77 in the Thursday afternoon update released by the Alabama Department of Public Health. The closest case to Winston County is a case confirmed in Walker County.
Jefferson County still has the highest number of confirmed cases at 34. Lee County has 10 cases, Shelby County has 9, Elmore and Madison County each have 5, Tuscaloosa County has 4, Montgomery County has 3 and Baldwin, Calhoun, Chambers, Limestone, St. Clair, Talladega and Walker each have 1.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston County Commission in an emergency meeting held Thursday morning, voted to declare a State of Emergency, enabling Chairman Roger Hayes to carry out routine and necessary operations and expenditures due to the coronavirus or COVID-19 restrictions being issued statewide.
MONTGOMERY - Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) on Thursday, March 19, issued a statewide health order to aid in Alabama’s efforts to contain the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

BEAR CREEK - The Bear Creek Town Council meeting was coming to a close, with a motion on the table to adjourn, when a question asked by town council member Chris Gillum led into a fiery discussion and comments on whether the town has a legal park and rec board, resulting in police escorting two individuals out of the meeting.

HALEYVILLE - School officials are expressing concern that the closure of schools due to the Coronavirus or COVID-19 will be extended past the April 6 deadline, which would result in multiple complications administrators and staff would have to address.
