Willard “Lanier” Godsey, 91, of Houston, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 9, 1930 to Clinton and Martha Godsey.
Lanier will lie in state Sunday, January 23, 2022 from 1 – 2 p.m. at Houston Memorial United Methodist Church, where his funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Reverend Becky Scott and Reverend Bob Alford will officiate. Nichols Funeral Home will direct.
Lanier is survived by his wife, Betty Godsey; sons, Johnny, Lanier, Clint and Rex Godsey; daughter, Debbie Lester; grandchildren, Bryan Godsey, Jaime Godsey Watkins, Nathaniel Godsey, Amy Lester Parks, Laurel Godsey Simmons, Kristina Godsey Darby, Erin Godsey, Kelley Lester, Missy Godsey Stephens and Ashley Godsey and multiple great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Martha Mixon Godsey; mother and father-in-law, Owen and Mary Alford; grandmother, Ira Alford and grandson, Jared Godsey.
Pallbearers will be Bryan Godsey, Nathaniel Godsey, Robin Sterling, Tom Lester, Ernie Stephens and Will Shubert. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Godsey, Buck Watkins, Owen Watkins and Patrick Watkins.
