4-H livestock judging team places in state competition

The Winston County Rough and Rowdy livestock judging team won fifth place in the junior division at the 2022 State 4-H Livestock Judging Contest at Auburn University on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, and its members also won some individual awards.

Michael Camp, rising ninth grader at Haleyville Middle School, won fourth place in swine judging and eighth place in the presentation of oral reasons, during which he had to explain his reasons for how he ranked a class of animals. Robert Gilmore, rising seventh grader at Addison Elementary School, won seventh place in cattle judging.

“I am so proud of these kids, how hard they worked and their dedication to the livestock judging team, community and county,” said Dylan Gilbert, Winston County Regional Extension Agent. “They worked hard in learning all the material in just a short amount of time, (this) being their first year to ever compete. They did amazing for their first competition! I am looking forward to seeing these kids continue to grow in the livestock judging sport and to grow our team in the coming years.”
