Alabama Power customers to see bill increase starting in August

WINSTON COUNTY - Alabama Power customers will be seeing an increase in their power bills starting in August.

Danielle Kimbrough, community development and public relations for the western division of Alabama Power, announced that due to the rising cost of fuel, Alabama Power has had to adjust its rates.  Beginning in August, the average residential customer bill will increase by approximately $6 a month to cover the higher fuel costs.

"Using diverse fuel types and sources has helped dampen the increase – which is lower than the current rate of inflation. We do not make any money from fuel expenses and remain committed to providing the low-cost, dependable service customers have come to expect," Kimbrough said.

Customers will receive a credit on their July bills, Kimbrough also announced.  The typical customer will receive a one-time credit of around $19 . The credit is due to a lower-than-forecasted cost in 2021.

Alabama Power wants customers to know that they are here to help customers who might be struggling to pay their bills.  Options are available to help customers work directly with Alabama Power for assistance.  Those options are:

• chatting online at Alabama Power Customer Support Center

• Calling (800)- 245-2244 Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.

• Visiting an Alabama Power office.  Alabama Power has an office in Haleyville.

• Signing up for a payment assistance program.
