Sharon "Sherry" A. Hood, 77, of East Peoria, Illinois, passed away Monday, Jan. 9, 2023, in Peoria, Illinois. Her graveside service will be held Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Frost Chapel Cemetery in Haleyville. Brother C.R. Hood will officiate. Nichols Funeral Home will direct the graveside service.
She was born on January 16, 1945 in Peoria to Albert and Zertha (Whitley) Elliott. She married Gene Hood on May 16, 1980 in East Peoria. He preceded her in death on December 5, 2001. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ed Elliott.
She is survived by her daughter, Jessica (Alex) Rusciano of Fishers, Indiana; four stepchildren, Jeanne (Bill) Umphenour of Catlin, Illinois, Jon Hood of Glasford, Illinois, Janet (Pat) Rogers of Peoria and Pamela (Dale) Christianson of East Peoria; ten grandchildren, Joseph, Kirstie, Jon Derek, Joseph, Laura, Lindsey, Kyle, Brooks, Wyatt, and Sophia; 14 great-grandchildren and two siblings, Joyce (Mike) Brooks of East Peoria and Kenneth (Joan) Elliott of Springfield, Illinois.
Sherry worked in production with Caterpillar, Inc., for many years and then with Glendale School in East Peoria as a custodian. She enjoyed spending time with her family, listening to music, bowling and traveling, especially back home to Alabama. Sherry had a giving heart and was a big supporter of St. Jude and the Wounded Warrior Project.
