SMITH LAKE - It may seem like elementary age is too early to think about college scholarships, but two Addison Elementary students have already been awarded a combined $140,000 in scholarships to Kentucky Christian University based on their fishing skills.
Westin Hyche, a third grade student this next school year, and Jace Wiggins, a fourth grade student this next school, are a successful junior division team--a team that has now won the state championship in the junior division of the Bass Tactix Fishing Organization, which is comprised of children in grades kindergarten through 8th grade. The championship was held May 5-6, at Wheeler Lake.
Hyche and Wiggins took their fishing skills to the next level, competing June 9-10, at the G.G. King National Invitational, presented by Bass Tactix Outdoors at Pickwick State Park in Counce, Tenn. The boys came in 14th overall out of 20 teams in the junior division, according to Westin’s father, Rutger Hyche.
In all, 94 teams competed in the national tournament.
