Legacy Trails Workday in the Sipsey Wilderness with Wild Alabama

Date

Join Wild Alabama volunteers on Friday, Sept. 6, Saturday, Sept. 7, Friday, Sept. 20, or Friday, Sept. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for an opportunity to work on the repair and restoration of trails in the Sipsey Wilderness.

Thanks to a Legacy Trails grant, Wild Alabama had professional trail builders analyze and diagnose the erosion issues on over 20 miles of Sipsey Wilderness trails. Armed with that knowledge, Wild Alabama is now ready to make improvements.

Volunteers will get credit for  hours of service, while doing something in nature with others who are participating for similar reasons.

No prior experience is needed. If you like hiking with trail maintenance, then this event is perfect for you. Participants be at least 18 years old or accompanied by an adult. All participants should bring  food and water for the day in a backpack that can be carried on the trail. Please also bring any medicine, whether prescription or over-the-counter, that you might need while you are away from your car.

For safety, wear closed-toed shoes with ankle support, long pants and work gloves. Wild Alabama will provide hard hats and safety glasses as needed. Please do not bring pets on workdays due to safety concerns.

If you have questions about the workday or are concerned because you have a limitation, don't worry! You can speak directly to the trail leader, Lindsay Madison through email at Lindsay@wildal.org or by phone to ask all the questions you like and see if this is the right event for you.
