Vivian Elizabeth Adkins Melson

Vivian Elizabeth Adkins Melson went to her eternal reward on Friday, Oct. 11, 2024.

She was born June 19, 1949, and was raised with her two sisters by loving parents in Double Springs. She lived, worked, worshiped and raised a family there, helping her community however she could, until her death at age 75.

Vivian never met a friend or a stranger in need without trying to help. Over the years, she helped build many proms for WCHS seniors and assisted with countless bean suppers. Around 1990, she, with the help of her husband Ronnie, organized, and fundraised for, the construction of a new playground at Double Springs Elementary. Later, she and Ronnie were dedicated WCHS band boosters, and as such, they helped with a number of homecoming fundraisers, even after their own band kid graduated.

Vivian graduated from the University of North Alabama and earned her master's at the University of Alabama.

For 40 years, she taught Winston County kids everything from high school PE to first grade. She was a strict teacher, but her heart was kind and generous. Through the way she lived her life, she set a strong example of loving, respecting and helping others for her daughter, Amy.

Vivian was preceded in death by her father and mother, Garnet and Felice (Hall) Adkins.

She is survived by her husband, Ronnie; her daughter, Amy; her sisters, Sandra (Frank) Rice and Deborah (Mike) Curtis; her niece, Kailee Curtis; and her brother- and sister-in-law, Lancie and Martina Melson.

A viewing will be held at First Baptist Church of Double Springs on Monday, Oct. 14, from 6-8 p.m. Vivian's funeral will be there at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15, following a noon viewing. She will be buried near her parents at Fairview Cemetery.

Vivian's family asks that God bless everyone who has prayed for Vivian and who has helped and supported them in the days before and since her death as well as her compassionate nurses, doctors and caregivers and the kind Nichols Funeral Home team. They would also like to thank First Baptist Church and Bro. George Whitten, who will officiate at the funeral.
