Kathern Myirl Wakefield, 86, of Lynn, passed away Monday, October 28, 2024 at her residence.
Kathern was born on December 7, 1937 to Chester and Effie Kelly. She was a loving and devoted mother, a dedicated Christian and a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Church for over 50 years. Kathern worked at home health for many years and put so much love and compassion into it. She was a member and sang in Gospel Valley Trio for many years. She always said that she would rather be singing than eat; it thrilled her heart to be singing for the Lord and giving him praise. Her life touched many people and she will be greatly missed by her family.
Visitation will be Friday, November 1, 2024 from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville. Her funeral will be at Mt. Vernon Church in Lynn at 2 p.m., with Brother Ronnie Melvin officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Kathern is survived by her sons, Terry Wakefield (Debra), Jerry Wakefield (Barbara) and Timothy Wakefield; daughter, Kathy Buchanan (Rodney); grandchildren, Kathrena Ward (Brandon), Chris Wakefield (Lauren), Arron Buchanan, Misty Pearce, Tyler Wakefield, David Wakefield (Misti) and Tiffany Buchanan; 9 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Clifford Wakefield; parents, Chester and Effie Kelly and siblings, Imogene Smith, Lola Mae Tittle, Buddy Kelly, Margret Borden and Larry Kelly.
