Volunteers drag trash they've collected from Smith Lake to a dumpster during a 2022 lake cleanup.

CRANE HILL - Winston County Smith Lake Advocacy Inc. will hold its fall Renew Our Rivers cleanup of the lake and its shorelines with Alabama Power this week, and volunteers are needed.

The cleanup will take place by boat on Thursday, Nov. 14, and Friday, Nov. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The boats, some of which will be Alabama Power pontoon boats, will launch from King Boat Docks at 202 County Road 4007, Crane Hill, Ala.

By road, from Winston County Road 4006, turn onto Winston County Road 222. Stay left to reach the boat ramp.

By water, the boat launch is about a mile north of Rock Creek Marina. The GPS coordinates are 34° 02' 11" N 87° 07' 43" W.

The cleanup will focus on Rock, White Oak and Crooked creeks.

Bring a life vest if possible; if you do not have one, one will be provided for you. Trash bags and grabbers will also be provided. Lunch will be served after the cleanup.
