James Leacel "J.L." Waldrep

James Leacel "J.L." Waldrep, 90, of Cullman, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Riverside Senior Living in Decatur.

He was born February 10, 1935 to James and Atha Waldrep. Leacel enjoyed logging, farming and gardening. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved deer hunting and fishing most of all. Leacel attended Bethel Baptist Church in the Blair community and owned his own logging business for over 50 years.

Visitation will be Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 12-2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Addison, where his funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will be in New Mt. Zion Cemetery in Logan. Brother Randall Waldrep will officiate. Pallbearers will be Brandon Bartlett, Wesley Waldrep, Jake Seymore, Lane Waldrep, Dathan Cleghorn, Drake Cleghorn, Damon Cleghorn and Brandon Ponder. Honorary pallbearers will be Branson Bartlett, Houston Seymore and Henry Seymore.

Leacel is survived by his daughter, Felicia Waldrep (Dale) Bartlett; son, Edwin Waldrep; grandchildren, Alicia (Brandon) Ponder, Melissa (Damon) Cleghorn, Brandon (Amanda) Bartlett, Eric Waldrep and Wesley (Heather) Waldrep; great-grandchildren, Jake (Haley) Seymore, Dathan Cleghorn, Drake Cleghorn, Ava Bartlett, Braylee Bartlett, Branson Bartlett, Lane Waldrep and Carley Waldrep; great-great-grandchildren, Houston Seymore and Henry Seymore; sisters, Yvonne Peak, Nina Waldrep and Ramona Adkins; brother, Theo Waldrep and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Irene Waldrep; parents, James Hubert and Atha Lee Waldrep; sister, Barbara Hood; two infant sisters, Anita Waldrep and Vondlee Waldrep; brothers, Delton Waldrep and Mike Waldrep and best friend and cousin, Rudolph Waldrep.
