HALEYVILLE - Fall is in the air, as the fall season of activities at the Heart of Haleyville Downtown Park kicks off this Friday, Sept. 12, with a game event that was very popular, drawing a big crowd during the park’s summer season.

Deal or No Deal

Deal or No Deal will be this Friday from 6-8 p.m., followed by a major event each weekend at the park, located on Main Street, leading up to the fall season’s grand finale, the city’s Fall Festival, Saturday, Oct. 25.
“Deal or No Deal was a huge success, one of the better things we had going on in the summer,” stated Park Committee Member Brian Berry. “So we’re bringing it back for the fall.”
The game, which is similar to the TV show, will allow participants to choose various cases containing different monetary amounts, ranging from one penny to $200, organizers stated.
Participants will pick out cases when their name or number is drawn, according to organizers.
During the game played during the park’s summer schedule, one participant left with a penny, another left with $33 and another with $200, Berry recalled.

Apple Harvest

The Apple Harvest  will be Saturday, Sept. 20, from  2-4 p.m. at the downtown park.
“We are bringing an apple orchard to the park,” explained Park Committee Member Christy Harbin. “We will have apple trees to pick apples, but we will also have different things to do, such as games that involve apples.”
Such activities include a pie eating contest, caramel apples and apple cider. “Imagine being at an apple orchard and all of the things they have there.  We are bringing (that) to the park,” Harbin emphasized.
Park committee members thanked Steve Bryant for making the wooden trees on which the  apples will be located.
“He has done a phenomenal job,” Harbin said. “We really need to focus on thanking him for everything he does for the city.”
During the Apple Harvest, the public can also enjoy a hayride around the downtown area, according to Harbin.

Bingo

Bingo, which also drew a big crowd during the summer to play the popular game and win prizes donated from local businesses, will be Friday, Oct. 3, from 6-8 p.m. at the downtown park.

Cops and Bobbers

Cops and Bobbers, located at Haleyville City Lake the following day, Saturday, Oct. 4,  will give children who register a chance to do some actual fishing with the Haleyville Police Department, officers with a souvenir fishing pole they can take home, Harbin said.

Game Day-Chili Cookoff

The fall line-up of events continues with a Game Day/Chili Cookoff  on Saturday, Oct. 18, beginning at 2 p.m. with the showing of an SEC football game on  large screens at the downtown park
A chili cookoff will also take place that day at the downtown park, with chili served to the public while they watch the football game, Harbin stated.
Anyone wishing to enter the chili cookoff should contact Harbin at (205) 486-3121 or Haleyville City Hall, to register.

Fall Festival grand finale to fall events

The grand finale, the annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 25, from  3-5 p.m., will feature trunk-or-treating, where individuals, churches and businesses set up displays for trick-or-treating, complete with a costume contest.

Second annual
 historical walk planned

The second annual historical walk will again be part of the fall festival, but this year will include a hayride in the downtown area, thanks to a truck and trailer provided by Dwayne Melton from the Haleyville Center of Technology.
The tour will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Haleyville Exchange, formerly Feldman’s  Department Store, which will be open at the upstairs for the public to see the new historical museum filled with local history.
The tour, which will last  until 5:30 p.m., will ride around the perimeter of the downtown, while stories and historical details will be shared by Chad Fell and Vicky Dean, members of the Haleyville Historical Society.
The tour will conclude with an open house at the historical Feldman House.

All events are free of charge.
