WINSTON COUNTY - During the week of September 17-20, the Office of U.S. Senator Doug Jones will host informational sessions across Alabama for constituents who are interested in applying for a nomination to one of the five U.S. military service academies.
Because the U.S. Senate will be in session, Jones is unable to attend. His local team members will lead each session.
Jones has the privilege of nominating young adults from Alabama to attend these prestigious institutions. Applicants must first apply to the academy of their choice and then secure a nomination from their U.S. Senator(s), U.S. Representative and/or the Vice President in order to complete the admissions process.
The session in Birmingham will take place Wednesday, Sept. 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Birmingham Public Library, located at 2100 Park Place. The session in Madison will take place Thursday, Sept. 20, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Madison Public Library, located at 142 Plaza Boulevard.
Those wishing to apply to one of the five U.S. military service academies must meet the following eligibility requirements:
• Be 17-22 years old as of July 1, of the year of admission to a service academy;
• Be a U.S. citizen who is not married, pregnant or have legal obligation to support any dependents.
• Reside in Alabama.
