Alabamian offering free tribute to area veterans

WINSTON/MARION - From the earliest days of our nation to the present, American men and women have made huge sacrifices - even the ultimate sacrifice - to keep the United States the land of the free and the home of the brave. These brave soldiers deserve to be saluted, and that is exactly what the Alabamian plans to do this November.

A historic special section will be included within the Wednesday, Nov. 7, edition of the Alabamian, containing photos of local residents and/or their loved ones who have served in all branches of our nation’s armed forces - from the Civil War to the present. Along with the photos, the soldier’s name, rank, branch of service, war(s) fought in, years of service and, for active duty members of the military, the place where the solider is currently stationed will be included. There is no charge to submit information and photos.

“We are very pleased to present this opportunity to honor the soldiers who came before us to build our nation into the wonderful place it is, as well as the members of our military who are currently working hard to protect the freedoms we cherish so dearly,” Shelly Hess, managing editor of the Alabamian, said.

Photos and information can be submitted numerous ways. The photos can be brought by the Alabamian, located on Highway 195 in Haleyville, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“Our staff will be happy to scan the photos and return them to you when you bring them by,” Hess said.

Photos and information can also be mailed to:
