WINSTON COUNTY - The deadlines to receive assistance to make sure area children have a merry Christmas are approaching.
The deadline to sign up for assistance through Toys for Tots is Friday, Dec. 14. Fraternal Order of Police Free State Lodge #51 is sponsoring Toys for Tots once again this year. Applications are now available at the Winston County Sheriff’s Office in the Winston County Courthouse in Double Springs, the Double Springs Police Department, the Addison Police Department, the Arley Police Department and the Lynn Police Department.
Toys for Tots is open to residents across Winston County with the exception of Haleyville.
To receive help from Toys for Tots, children must reside in Winston County and be ages 12 and under. Applications must be submitted by the child’s parent or legal guardian. Only one application per child will be accepted.
Members of the Free State Lodge are needing donations of toys and monetary contributions. Only new toys will be accepted, and can be dropped off at the Winston County Sheriff’s Office. Monetary contributions can be mailed to:
Winston County Sheriff’s Office
P.O. Box 10
Double Springs, AL. 35553
Volunteers are invited to come to the Double Springs Municipal Building Dec. 20-21 at 5 p.m. to help FOP members pack up the toys for families. The toys will be available for pickup on Saturday, Dec. 22, from 8 a.m. until noon at the Double Springs Municipal Building.
In Haleyville, the Rotary Club is sponsoring Toys for Kids, which will accept applications through Friday, Dec. 7.
Parents and/or guardians who are in need of assistance providing toys for their children this Christmas can pick up an application at one of the following locations:
• Traders & Farmers Bank
• First National Bank
• Pinnacle Bank
• Todd Barton - State Farm Insurance
• Alabama Power
• Lakeland Community Hospital Emergency Department
Toys for Kids is available to help children ages birth through 12. Only one application can be completed per child. However, multiple children within the same household can each have his or her own application.
Toys for Kids serves the Haleyville area only.
While Rotary Club members are proud to offer this option for families in need, it is very costly. That is why they are so grateful each year to the community for monetary donations provided to help make Toys for Kids possible.
For those who complete the applications, toys will be available for pickup on Friday, Dec. 14, from 3-6 p.m. at Paradise 92.7 Radio Station, located on Highway 13 North.
