HES silent auction ends tonight at STEAM Art Expo

HALEYVILLE - A silent auction is ongoing at the Haleyville Elementary School library, where members of the school and public are being invited to place a silent bid on numerous gift baskets filled with a variety of different items on display throughout the library.

Each homeroom was assigned to collect a certain theme of items and compile a basket which was taken to the library for display. Baskets have such themes as Get Well Soon, full of cleaning and disinfecting supplies, while another is Fun at the Beach, featuring summer items and tanning lotions. Other baskets contain coffee, games and other items. A sheet of paper was placed by each basket, and members of the public are being urged to place a bid based on the starting bid price listed on the paper. The goal is to raise funds for the school general account  used to purchase teacher or classroom supplies.

The baskets will be given away to the highest bidders tonight at the STEAM Art Expo, which will be showcasing art from every student on all campuses of Haleyville City Schools. Art is being displayed at the two gyms at the elementary, at the middle school gym and the high school cafeteria. Public is invited to browse among the works of art and purchase pieces. Proceeds here will go toward the STEAM initiative.
