Haleyville sales, usage tax increases go into effect Feb. 1

HALEYVILLE - The sales tax as well as usage tax for the city of Haleyville increased one cent for every dollar effective Thursday, Feb. 1, as a means of funding healthcare relating to the possible acqusition of Lakeland Community Hospital by the Java Medical Group. Mayor Ken Sunseri noted funding received from these increases would go toward paying back the $1.5 million loan that was approved in a recent council meeting toward the purchase of the hospital.
