HALEYVILLE - Haleyville High School has a new HOBY representative.
Zeke Shipman was named the 2019 HOBY winner out of 15 contestants. HOBY, - which stands for Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership - was founded in 1958 by actor Hugh O'Brian as a non-profit with the mission of empowering the leaders of tomorrow. Open to 10th graders annually, the HOBY competition winner gets to attend a nationwide seminar, with the four alternates also having the opportunity to attend at their own expense.
This year's HOBY alternates for HHS are Ann Marie Boyles, Kaytee Beth Boyles, Catie Aldridge and Karman Speakman. Other students who participated in this year's competition are Maddie Martin, Michaela Ramos, Emma Nethery, Molly Winters, Ashley Clark, Abigail Howard, Makayla Hancock, Grant Wakefield, Olivia Farris and Lewis Barber.
