HALEYVILLE - The 2019-2020 scholars bowl teams at Haleyville Middle School proved they know their facts at the recent Russellville Middle School Invitational, where all three teams including A, B, and C won matches and the A team advanced to the quarterfinals.
Scholars Bowl Sponsor and Middle School Teacher Allison Sigler noted three Scholars Bowl teams from HMS competed, comprising grades 6-8. They were quized on a variety of trivia including history, literature, science, fine arts, music, pop culture, mythology, geography, etc. just to name a few.
Every question answered correctly ensured a bonus question. Team A advanced to the quarterfinals where they were eventually defeated by Monrovia School, Sigler stated.
The three scholars bowl teams competed at the East Lawrence Invitational back in December when the A team advanced to the quarterfinals.
“I'm very proud of all the teams,” Sigler said. These teams, she added, were willing to get up with much dedication and leave during the early morning hours for these academic competitions.
“Ms. Sigler and this group of kids are working hard in practice. They practice hard every week, and I'm proud of the season they have had,” added HMS Principal Bo Wilcoxson.
Wilcoxson awarded Sigler's three Scholar Bowl teams with a pizza party Thursday, Feb. 20 for their had work and dedication.
