Headstart programs accepting applications for the current school year

WINSTON COUNTY - Community Action Partnership of North Alabama’s Children’s Services Program is now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 school year.

Full-day, full-week (6 to 6 ½ hours per day) high-quality early childhood education services to children are provided at no cost to qualifying families. Children’s services programs are located locally in Double Springs and Haleyville.  Programs offered include Preschool Head Start (3-4-year-olds), Early Head Start (birth to 3-year-olds), EHS Pregnant Women/Teens (prenatal to birth) and Pre-K (4-year-olds).  

Enrollment priority is given to families who meet the federal poverty guidelines, families that are McKinney-Vento eligible, children in foster/kinship care or children on public assistance.  Children with an IEP (3-5-year-olds) or IFSP (birth-3-year-olds) are also given priority regardless of the severity of their disability.

Families need to provide documentation of their income along with documentation of the child’s birth record and medical card numbers. Acceptable verification of income is a W2, 1040 tax forms, a pay stub, statement from employer, Social Security Statement, SSI statement, public assistance statement, unemployment or a statement from Health & Welfare Services.

Services are provided at no cost to qualifying families, including all school supplies, meals and snacks. Quality services are provided by degreed and trained classroom staff. All sites and classrooms follow strict COVID-19 health and safety protocols equal to or exceeding all CDC guidelines. Transportation services are not provided. However, staff are available to assist parents in identifying other avenues for transportation, where available.
