DOUBLE SPRINGS - This Saturday, Aug. 6, Capstone Rural Health Center will give away 250 backpacks plus school supplies, haircut and shoe coupons and more at its 4th annual Back2School drive-through event.
Winston County area students in grades pre-K and up are invited to stop by Double Springs Elementary School between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. to receive these supplies while they last. Children must be present to receive their backpacks and supplies.
Other items to be given away include lunch boxes and hygiene products. There will also be free food, vendors, a kid zone and a health fair at the event.
“Due to popular demand and to ensure (the) continued safety of attendees, the Back2School event will have a drive-through setup again this year. Attendees will line up in a designated area and will drive along the car pick-up line area,” explained Capstone Operations Director Amber Elswick.
Vendors will be spaced along the drop-off/pick-up area so that cars can stop at each one as they drive through. The kid zone will be the final section of vendors, who will hand out ice cream, snow cones, bubbles, games and more for the children to take with them.
“Capstone will have providers and nurses on site to offer education on oral health, immunizations, well-child visits and much more. Capstone will also give away free at-home COVID tests. If anyone is interested in receiving a health screening, we will be able to assist them,” said Elswick. “We (will) refer them to the Double Springs location for a provider visit. If someone has an immediate need, the providers and nurses on site (can) help.”
LifeSouth will be on site to collect blood donations.
“We host the Back2School Event as a way to give back to the community and our patients that support us and trust us with their families’ healthcare,” Elswick said. “With the Capstone Double Springs location open and serving patients in the area, we are thrilled to host the Back2School event in the Double Springs community this year.”
Capstone would like to thank the following sponsors who make this event possible and successful: Wal-Mart, the Town of Double Springs, Desperation Church, Free State Boat Docks, Listerhill Credit Union, B&D Lawn and Garden, First National Bank, The Warehouse at Shady Grove, Harrison Drugs, Leapfrogs and Lilypads Boutique, iShine Designs, TRUHomes in Lynn, Honda of Jasper, Bill Penney Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ford, Chick-fil-A, Jack’s, Shoe Carnival and Jasper Beauty Academy.
“The event continues to grow tremendously in community support, and we cannot express how grateful we are to our sponsors,” Elswick said.
