Mary Inez Huggins Cagle Baker, 82, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2023, at her home in Haleyville surrounded by her loved ones. Born on Sept. 24, 1940, in Burnsville, Miss., she was the youngest child of Lonnie and Myrtle Reynolds Huggins. She married James Cagle on Nov. 22, 1958, who preceded her in death. For 32 years, she was a seamstress for Monroe Trousers from which she retired. She loved camping, riding in a ’34 Ford Golf Cart and going to Fan Fair. She married Dean Baker on June 25, 2016, and she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Haleyville.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at New Hope Baptist Church with Bro. Richie Emerson and Bro. Tim Meherg officiating. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. A committal service will be at 2:30 p.m. at Young Memorial Gardens in Smithville, Miss. Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
In addition to her husband, Dean Baker, she is survived by two sons, Tommy Cagle and Terry (Lisa) Cagle of Smithville; stepson, Tommy (Carolyn) Baker of Haleyville; her daughter, Tena (Brad) Cagle Powell of Gonzales, La.; grandchildren, Christena Powell Brignac, Patricia DeArmond Day, Kirk Powell, Dustin Cagle and step grandson, Josh (Tiffany) Baker; great grandchildren, Kyla and Lexi Brignac, Cullen DeArmond, Alyssa and Paisley Powell; step great grandchildren, Chloe and Caleb Baker; and many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Gentiva Hospice and Jamie and Amanda for their devoted care and to her sitters, Tammy Hulsey and Angie Baldy, and many others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Cagle; brothers, Jimmy, Albert, Junior and Dexter Earl Huggins and sisters, Savilla Baldy and Erma Lee Whitlock.
Pallbearers will be Kirk Powell, Dustin Cagle, Cullen DeArmond, Tommy Baker, Scott Day, Andrew Green and Johnny Fayette. Honorary pallbearers will be Brad Powell and Johnny Fears.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
