Bethel No. 1 Baptist Church, located in the Wilson Bend community, will begin its month-long 150th anniversary celebration this Sunday, Aug. 6.
WILSON BEND - In the southeast corner of Winston County, a powerful beacon of God’s love has been spreading the Gospel for 150 years, and there are no plans to stop answering that call to serve.
Bethel No. 1 Baptist Church, located on County Road 12 in the Wilson Bend community near Arley, is marking its 150th anniversary in August with a month-long celebration featuring guest speakers each Sunday. Pastor Mike Tidwell and the congregation will kick off the celebration by welcoming Michael Goforth August 6.
“He pastored Arley Baptist Church 25 years ago,” Tidwell said.
August 6 is also old-fashioned day. Dinner will be served in the fellowship hall following the service.
On August 13, the church will welcome Charles Underwood for morning service and Michael Turner from Addison for evening service. Different choirs from throughout the area have also been invited to attend.
On August 20, Winston County Baptist Association Director of Missions Eddie Everett will be the guest for both the morning and evening services, and on August 27, Mackey Watts will be the guest preacher.
“He was raised in this area and went to school at Meek,” Tidwell said.
