George Willie Gray

George Willie Gray, 66, of Athens, formerly of Double Springs, passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

He was born March 29, 1957 to Willie and Lucy Gray. George was an avid Alabama fan. He loved watching westerns, wrestling and old movies. George loved going to “Bingo” at his apartment complex and buying as many lottery tickets as possible. He loved hitchhiking around the world, picking at his great-nephew “Jack Jack” and talking smack with his best friend, Charlie.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs from 11 a.m. until noon, where his Celebration of Life will be held at noon. Ric Sanchez will officiate.    

George is survived by his brother, Larry (Cathy) Gray; sisters, Betty (Paul) Jackson and Patricia (David) Wallace; nephews, Brandon, Chad, Buddy and Cory; nieces, Tina, Angela, Paula, Tasha, Kristie and Jaycee; 19 great-nieces; six great-nephews;and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wille and Lucy Gray; sister, Louise Stamos; brothers, Bill Garrison and Jessie Gray grandmother, Lizzie Beasley and nephews, Daniel Gray and Jonny Wallace.
