BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - Wild Alabama will log some miles toward the 100 Alabama Miles Challenge with a stewardship hike in the Sipsey Wilderness on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The 100 Alabama Miles Challenge is a statewide program that challenges Alabamians to walk, run, hike, bike, swim, paddle ride or roll 100 miles each year and to do so by visiting Alabama’s many parks, nature preserves and rivers.
The challenge can be accomplished by moving just two miles each week.
People are urged to track their miles at 100alabamamiles.org where they can form teams, compete with others and collect electronic badges marking their progress.
For the hike, participants will need to visit wildal.org/events.html to register as group sizes are limited in the Sipsey Wilderness. There are currently eight openings.
Hikers should bring a lunch, water and tolietries bag and will be practicing Leave No Trace as they clean up around popular campsites.
A start location will be given to registered participants.
