Terry Lee Sutherland, 74, of Double Springs, entered into rest on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.
Terry was born on June 1, 1944 in Double Springs. He was a graduate of Winston County High School and a longtime member of Rock Creek Baptist Church. Terry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for two years until he received a hardship discharge. He served as the Unit Administrator for the Army National Guard in Double Springs for 32 years. He also served his community while working as a dispatcher and jailer with the Winston County Sheriff’s Department for ten years. Terry enjoyed farming, mechanic work and nature observation. Terry worked hard all of his life to provide for his family. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He always made sure his grandbabies had what they needed. He also loved riding his grandbabies on tractors and listening to Rick & Bubba. He was given the nickname “Speedy” by his co-workers at the sheriff’s office.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2018, from 6-9 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Double Springs, where services will be on Friday at 2 p.m. Brother Buford Parker will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Terry is survived by wife of 49 years, Margaret E. Sutherland; sons, Tommy Lynn Sutherland, and Michael Lee Sutherland and his wife Mary Ellen; daughter, Dana Annette Wyma and her husband Kevin; brothers, O’Neal, Tony and Johnny Sutherland and his wife Lisa; sister, Gloria Jean Jacks and her husband Danny Joe; he was “Granddaddy” to 6 grandchildren, Jacob Lovett, Nicholaus Bryan, Bri Anna Sutherland Lancaster, Benjamin Michael Sutherland, Maddie Sutherland and Maycee McKim and 4 great-grandchildren, Ella Caroline Lovett, Payson Reed Lovett, Kellin Reece Lovett and Jagger Aaron Lovett.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Murphy and Gloria Sutherland.
