HALEYVILLE - The Haleyville Rescue Squad is collecting donations all week, with plans to leave out Saturday for areas of rural Florida that were hit hard by Hurricane Michael.
Jeremy Wise spoke to the Haleyville City Council during their Oct. 15, meeting, announcing about the collection drive and thanking the city for its support. Wise said that the Rescue Squad is accepting numerous types of items, including toiletries, canned goods, baby wipes, pet supplies, bottled water, clean clothes, bedding, 50:1 fuel and bar and chain oil for chainsaws.
Donations can be dropped off at AutoZone, located on Highway 13 South through Friday evening. Monetary contributions are also being accepted, and can also be dropped off at AutoZone.
The Haleyville High School Roaring Lion Band and Band Boosters are also getting involved, teaming up with Fayette County High School for a collection drive. The Rescue Squad will have its trailer at the football game Friday night to collection the donations, as well as accept any donations from anyone attending the game.
Wise wants to thank everyone who has already made a donation, as well as all the area churches for their kind contributions to this effort.
