New Bankhead ranger discusses taxes, beetle infestation

HALEYVILLE - The lack of property taxes  Winston County receives off federal lands was a major topic brought to Andy Scott, the new district ranger of the Bankhead National Forest, when he spoke at the Jan. 5, meeting of the Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Scott, a research scientist  in the U.S.D.A. Forest Service the past 15 years, chose to make a fairly significant career change when accepting the role of district ranger of the Bankhead National Forest, he said.
The job of district ranger opened up in October, 2017, and Scott accepted.
