ASHRIDGE - The Ashridge Volunteer Fire Department is reluctantly going up on fire dues beginning Jan. 1.
The current rate of $30 per year for both residences and businesses will change at the start of 2019. Household dues will be going up to $40 a year, and businesses will now pay $80 a year in fire dues. This will only be the second time the department has gone up on fire dues in the past 35 years, firefighters stated. The three-year payment program, where residents could pay for three years worth of fire dues at once, is also being eliminated Jan. 1.
All fire dues will be billed in January, another change for the department, according to Ashridge VFD Secretary Roger Watts.
“Currently, the way it is billed, if you pay your dues in August, you won’t be billed until the next August. We have decided to go to one time a year in January,” Watts said.
