WINSTON COUNTY - Free volunteer tax preparation services will be available once again this year for those who qualify.
AARP Tax-Aide sites will be open in Double Springs and Arley, as well as Jasper and Russellville beginning in February. Due to illness and a lack of volunteers, the Haleyville site will not be open this year.
The Double Springs location will be in the courtroom at Double Springs Town Hall Wednesday, Feb. 6, Wednesday, March 6, and Wednesday, April 3, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day.
The Arley location will be at the Arley Public Library, and will be open Monday, Feb. 25, and Monday, March 11, during regular operating hours.
The Jasper location will be in the American Red Cross building, with volunteers on site Feb. 12, Feb. 21, March 12, March 26 and April 2.
The Russellville location will be at the Franklin County Department of Human Resources on County Highway 48 every Thursday beginning Feb. 7 through April 11, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day.
Volunteers will prepare and electronically file federal and state tax returns for taxpayers with low and middle incomes. You do not have to be a member of AARP, a retiree or a certain age to use this service.
Individuals should bring the following:
Photo proof of identification; Social Security cards for themselves, their spouse and dependents or Social Security number verification letters issued by the Social Security Administration; Birth dates for all persons listed on the tax return; Wage and earning statement(s) Forms W-2, W-2G and 1099-R from all employers and Social Security; Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099); Copies of last year's federal and state returns, if available; Bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of refunds and ther relevant information about income and expenses. .
