WINSTON/MARION - Samaritan's Purse, a non-denominational evangelical Christian organization that provides spiritual and physical aid to people around the globe, is partnering with local and area churches once more for Operation Christmas Child, where individual families and churches pack shoeboxes with gifts and treats for children all across the globe, spreading joy and hope during the Christmas season.
National Collection Week for the shoeboxes is Nov. 18-25, when the shoeboxes filled with goodies can be dropped off at local churches. Area churches that are participating this year are Hines Memorial Baptist Church, located on Highway 241 in Bear Creek and Addison First Baptist Church, located on 2nd Street off of Highway 278.
Drop-off times for Hines Baptist are as follows:
Monday, Nov. 18 - 6-8 p.m.;
Tuesday, Nov. 19 - 6-8 p.m.;
Wednesday, Nov. 20 - 6-9 p.m.;
Thursday, Nov. 21 - 6-9 p.m.;
Friday, Nov. 22 - 6-9 p.m.;
Saturday, Nov. 23 - 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.;
Sunday, Nov. 24 - 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.;
Monday, Nov. 25 - 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Drop-off times for Addison First Baptist are as follows:
Monday, Nov. 18 - 8-10 a.m.;
Tuesday, Nov. 19 - 4-7 p.m.;
Wednesday, Nov. 20 - 8-10 a.m.;
Thursday, Nov. 21 - 4-7 p.m.;
Friday, Nov. 22 - 8-10 a.m.;
Saturday, Nov. 23 - 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.;
Sunday, Nov. 24 - 2-4 p.m.;
Monday, Nov. 25 - 8-10 a.m.
Suggestions for gifts to include are "wow" items such as dolls, soccer balls or an item of clothing; personal care items, school supplies, crafts and activities and a personal note. Please do not include any of the following: candy; toothpaste; gum; used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; seeds; fruit rolls or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powdered or liquid); liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers or aerosol cans.
