HALEYVILLE - The prizes are bigger and the rules are slightly different, but the goal is the same - attracting holiday shoppers to local businesses.
The Haleyville Area Chamber of Commerce has revamped its annual Christmas promotion this year into the Twelve Days of Christmas. Now through Monday, Dec. 16, everyone is encouraged to visit participating businesses to register for Bonus Bucks, which can be used in Chamber-member businesses that accept them.
During the Twelve Days of Christmas, participating businesses draw a name each day from all the persons who have registered at their respective business and submit it, then an overall winner for the day is chosen. The business that submitted the winner’s name then calls the winner and notifies he or she of their good fortune, and the winner returns to the business where he or she registered to claim the prize.
In years past, all Bonus Bucks winners were drawn on the same day as the Haleyville Christmas Parade, with Bonus Buck amounts ranging from $50-$250. This year, with the exception of $250 winners on the first day of the promotion and the last, all other winners will receive $100 in Bonus Bucks.
Chamber President Mike Evans said the Twelve Days of Christmas was created to bring more excitement to the annual promotion, a plan that seems to be working.
“We are getting a good response. It has been fun. The merchants seem pretty excited about getting to call the winners and give them their Bonus Bucks,” Evans said. “We are trying to get the merchants a little bit more involved in the drawing and giving away of the winnings. It’s a little bit more exciting for them because they get to hand out the prizes to the winners.”
Local businesses participating in the Twelve Days of Christmas are:
• The Dandy Lion
• Dixie Den
• Dixie Flower & Gifts
• Elliott True Value
• The Haley House
• Haleyville Insurance Center
• Lakeland Community Hospital
• Northwest Alabamian
• Rowe Building Supply
• Russell’s Rising Smoke
• Traders & Farmers Bank
• Traditions Florist
Evans encourages everyone to stop by one of the participating businesses and register for Bonus Bucks now through Dec. 16.
“We hope everyone enjoys it,” Evans said.
