DELMAR - The Delmar Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual benefit poker run Saturday, Oct. 16.
This year's run is bittersweet for Delmar firefighters, who are dedicating the run to the memory of long-time supporter Tony Barnes, who passed away Aug. 9, at the age of 60. Barnes was also a member of the Sons of the Confederacy.
"We are dedicating this run to Tony Barnes. He has been at the rides and has helped us come up with ideas for the next rides. He has been to every single poker run," Delmar Fire Chief Ray Cantrell said.
Those wanting to participate can begin registering at the Delmar Fire Department, located on Highway 13 South, at 2 p.m. the day of the ride. The cost to register will be $25 per bike. Extra riders are $5 apiece.
Kickstands will go up at 3 p.m. The poker run will lead participants to several locations, including Craft Community Center, Gateway Supermarket in Double Springs and the Rusty Needle Tattoo Parlor in Haleyville. The ride will conclude back at the Delmar Fire Department, where a great meal will be served, and County Road 93 will provide live entertainment.
Proceeds from the poker run will go to benefit the Delmar Volunteer Fire Department, which thanks the community in advance for its continuing support.
