Wild Alabama nature hike

BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - Wild Alabama is hosting a laid-back hike down Trail 200 to showcase work that has been done on the trail as well as lto ook at plants, fungi and critters along the way. The hike's details will be determined by participants' preferences. If participants want to go down and walk in the creek or look closer at the rock formations, that will happen.

Wild Alabama traditional tools backpacking trip in the Sipsey Wilderness

BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - Wild Alabama will hold a traditional tools two-day backpacking trip that includes trail maintenance and crosscut work in the Sipsey Wilderness on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26-27.

This trip is recommended for those who have experience in backpacking and camping in remote locations. Crosscut experience is not required to join this trip, but you do need to be able to hike 6-8 miles each day with an overnight backpack.

Howl-loween Night Hike in the Sipsey

BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - Wild Alabama is hosting a short and easy-paced night hike for all ages from 4-9 p.m. on Halloween, Thursday, Oct. 31. Participants will be looking for crepuscular and nocturnal wildlife, learning about their habits and enjoying some other surprise activities along the way. 

Children 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult. There is a 10-person group limit in the Sipsey Wilderness, so the location may change if there are many sign-ups.

Haleyville First Baptist sponsoring Swamp John’s

HALEYVILLE - First Baptist Church of Haleyville will host a benefit Swamp John’s supper Monday, Dec. 2, from 3-6 p.m. in the parking lot of the Dollar Tree shopping center next to Burger King on Highway 195 in Haleyville.
Plates will be $15 and will include fish, chicken, shrimp or combination of meats, fries, slaw, hushpuppies, a dill pickle spear, onion slice and sweet or unsweet tea.
Proceeds will go to help with missions at First Baptist Church.
