Bankhead stewardship contracting workshop


The Bankhead National Forest is hosting a stewardship contracting workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 27, for loggers, foresters, timber buyers and other contractors who are interested in bidding on upcoming stewardship timber sale contracts.  On-site registration will start at 8 a.m. at the Bankhead District Office at 1070 Hwy. 33 North in Double Springs. The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m.

NATR's outdoor recreation expo is Oct. 1

The first North Alabama Trails and Recreation Expo will be Saturday, Oct. 1, in Point Mallard Park in Decatur from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Expo will have something for every outdoor enthusiast with over 60 exhibitors already registered, classes such as the “Raptor Showcase” and “Local Wildlife Skins & Skulls” and activities that will include kayaking, mountain biking and rock-wall climbing.

Marion-Winston Landowner Tour and Regional Forestry Field Day

On Friday, Oct. 21, a landowner tour and field day will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Bill and Ann Self farm, located west of Natural Bridge at 2821 County Road 59, Haleyville. The event is open to the public and free to attend. Presentation topics will include the short leaf pine initiative, water quality, non-native invasive species, quail, prescribed burning and mixed woods. Lunch will be provided, and Professional Logging Managers (PLM) continuing education credits are available.
