Injunction sought against Imperial Inn parent company

HALEYVILLE      -   The City of Haleyville has filed a complaint in Winston County Circuit Court against Yogi, LLC, owner of the property known as the Imperial Inn, which city officials say has become a nuisance and should be closed.
“It has been a problem for a number of years,” one city official pointed out. “It has grown worse and worse.  “We have certainly had a large number of drug-related arrests, assault cases.”
The complaint, filed Feb. 22, asks the court to consider whether the motel should be permanently closed due to not taking the appropriate steps to stop the nuisance activity ongoing there, authorities said.
“The city has determined that efforts to assist in abating this nuisance have failed, and the lawsuit had to be filed,” a city official pointed out.

According to a copy of the complaint, the City of Haleyville, acting as plaintiff, entered the lawsuit against defendant Yogi, LLC, a domestic limited liability company, that owns the property where the Imperial Inn is located at 1250 11th Avenue in Haleyville.
“The property is a drug-related nuisance because of the presence of conditions of adverse impact upon the surrounding neighborhoods,” the complaint read.
The complaint also alleges there have been arrests of persons for drug-related activity as well as violent offenses occurring at the property.
“Law enforcement officers have made investigative purchases of drugs from the property,” the complaint read. “The Haleyville Police Department and Winston County Sheriff’s Office have served and executed search warrants at the property.”
The motel has also been the site of increased volume of pedestrian and vehicular traffic to and from the property, the complaint continued.
Also, complaints have been made to law enforcement and other government officials about illegal activity at the motel, with calls of the police department to the motel related to the use of drugs or violence stemming from drug-related activity increasing, the complaint continued.
