Johnnie H Wilson was born April 21, 1947 in Eutaw and passed away Thursday, February 12, 2026 at his home in Haleyville. He loved God, his family, friends, and his country.
He was a member of the Army National Guard. He was a hardworking man who began his labor career as an instructor in Thomasville in the Junior College System. He then relocated to Haleyville to be closer to his family in Russellville. He began a career in the grocery business working at Goars Big Star for many years and eventually owned and ran his own grocery store. He semi-retired and then just couldn't stay away from work, so he went back to be employed for several businesses in Haleyville, including Mays Flowers, then Classic Closets. He slowed down to work in maintenance at the National Guard Amory in Haleyville until his death.
Johnnie loved his friends and enjoyed every minute with them. He loved hunting and fishing. He was a proud member of the Talladega Turn 2 Wrecker Crew, where he served as crew member, photographer and cook. His love for the smoker began many years ago with the advent of Hog Wild Bar-B-Que, which was enjoyed by many people. He was a mentor to many who will continue the barbecuing tradition.
He loved good conversation with many friends and the local restaurants. He was an active
member of Haleyville Methodist Church. He was also surrounded by his family, which he
treasured and loved more than life itself.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Donna and daughters, Nicole Cook (Shane) and Gina Frazier (Wayne); grandsons Jay Cook, Robert Wilson Frazier, and Nickolas Frazier; brother, Jimmie Wilson (Shirley); stepbrother, David Jennings (Janet); niece, Dedra Rose (Ryan), and nephews Jimmie Wilson and Jonathan Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Johnnie M. Wilson and Mamie Wilson and loving stepmother Mary Jennings Wilson; sister, Peggy Vernon (Raymond), and niece, Angela Vernon.
Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 12 - 2 p.m. at Haleyville Methodist Church. His Celebration of Life service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church, with Bro. Mark Burleson officiating. Pinkard Funeral Home will direct.
