DOUBLE SPRINGS - The Winston Baptist Association was recently approved to host Southern Baptist disaster relief training.
The training is set to take place Thursday, March 12, through Saturday, March 14, at the new WBA Resource Center, located on Highway 195 in Double Springs. The training will include flood recovery, chainsaws and chaplaincy. Trainees must be members of a Southern Baptist church and willing to volunteer to help disaster victims one weeks each year.
The following is a breakdown of the courses that will be offered during the training:
Disaster relief chaplaincy - March 12-14. This will include both basic chaplaincy and operational stress first aid. This course is scheduled for all day Thursday through Saturday and will include what other states typically teach over two weekends.
All new trainees must meet at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at 3 p.m. for in-processing, badging/background check applications and general orientation. The general orientation training, which is required of all new volunteers is called Involving Southern Baptists in Disaster Relief, which will be offered from 4-5 p.m. on March 13.
The two-day disaster relief chainsaw course will take place from 5-9 p.m. on Friday and from 6:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
The disaster relief flood recovery course will take place on Friday from 5-6 p.m.
