LYNN - What began as an investigation into a residential break-in near Lynn led multiple law enforcement agencies to Fayette County, where a majority of the allegedly stolen items were found and the suspect was arrested.
Michael Dylan Tittle, 27, of Lynn, has so far been charged in Fayette County with receiving stolen property, since a large portion of the items taken from the Lynn residence were located there, noted Lynn Police Chief Bryan Kirkpatrick.
Tittle has also been charged with burglary third degree and theft of property first degree relating to the home break-in in the Lynn area, Kirkpatrick added.
Lynn Police received a call at 6 p.m. May 10, of the break-in at a residence on County Road 25, with Kirkpatrick responding to the scene to begin the investigation.
“A rear window had been taken out, literally taken out, frame and all,” Kirkpatrick noted.
Once inside, several thousand dollars worth of items, ranging from clothing to electronics, were stolen, the homeowner had discovered upon returning home, police said.
Kirkpatrick determined the timeframe of the incident and gathered evidence, and through leads obtained an address in Fayette County where stolen items from the home were believed to have been located, he said.
Accompanied by Derreck Cagle of the Lynn Fire Department, Kirkpatrick met with Fayette County deputies at 535 County Road 79 in the Carbon Hill area, a portion of which is located in Fayette County, police said.
“We were unable to get anybody to the door,” said Kirkpatrick. “Then we looked around and found a white male hiding in the grass in the woodline.”
The subject, identified as Tittle, was detained by Fayette County until Kirkpatrick could conduct a more thorough investigation.
Once Fayette County officials began interviews, an iPad matching the description of one taken from the Lynn residence, was located inside the Fayette County residence, according to Kirkpatrick.
“We entered the pass code into it, and the victim’s picture popped up on the screen, so we knew we were in the right place,” he said.
A Fayette County deputy then discovered a majority of the items taken from the Lynn residence inside an outbuilding on the property, police said.
The majority of the stolen property has been returned to its rightful owner, but some items such as electronics, clothing and jewelry have yet to be located, Kirkpatrick stated.
“A quick reaction is what helped to recover the stolen merchandise,” Kirkpatrick stated. “It takes agency cooperation to get things done.”
Investigation is also underway to determine the involvement of possibly more suspects, according to police.
