Lois Hankins, 84, of Haleyville, passed away Sunday, February 1, 2026, at her residence.
Lois was born October 8, 1941, to Jessie Lee and Evalina Flake Kinard in Double Springs. She enjoyed spending time in her garden, working her crossword puzzles, coloring and sewing, and she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and her family.
Visitation will be Friday, February 6, 2026, from 12-2 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Haleyville, where her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Ireland Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery in Haleyville. Brother Ricky Thrasher will officiate.
Lois is survived by her children, Odis Dewayne Hopson, Lois Sutherland, Debbie Newkirk and Robert Newkirk; brother, Troy (Mary) Kinard; her 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jessie Lee Kinard; mother, Evalina Flake Kinard; son, Freddie Lee Newkirk; brothers, Garvis Kinard, David Kinard and Donald Kinard; sisters, Laura Jean Wallace and Linda Taylor; sisters-in-law, Maggie Kinard and Louis Stamos and great-grandchildren, Emily Faith Morlan and Aaron Landon Hopson.
