The Northwest Alabamian runs obituaries submitted by funeral homes at a starting rate of $50 for 120 words or less. Additional words are 32 cents apiece. To add a photo, the cost is $5.

For those wanting to run an obituary, but who are not going through a funeral home or crematorium, the obituary price will begin at $100 for 120 words or less. Each additional word will be 32 cents apiece. To add a photo, the cost will be $5. Please note that all paid obituaries will have the phrase "Pd. Adv", otherwise known as paid advertisement in small type at the end of the obituary.
Free death notices are also available. The notice will include the name of the deceased, the deceased's age and city or town where he or she was living at the time of death, the date of death and the date of the funeral only. The name of the funeral home assisting the family will also be included.
The Northwest Alabamian publishes each Wednesday. The deadline to submit obituaries is every Monday at 2 p.m., except weeks that include holidays, when the deadline may be advanced forward.
