HALEYVILLE - Officials from throughout Winston County were joined by those from the state level in a crucial economic development meeting comparing the strengths of the county to incentives that can be provided from the Alabama Department of Commerce in helping to develop more rural areas.
The meeting, held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at Haleyville City Hall, brought together a majority of Winston County's state legislative delegation including Senator Greg Reed, Representatives Tim Wadsworth, Proncey Robertson and Tracy Estes, as well as a majority of mayors from municipalities across the county, including Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri, Double Springs Mayor Elmo Robinson, Arley Mayor Chris Tyree and Lynn Mayor Jeff Stokes.
Keynote speaker was Greg Canfield, director of the Alabama Department of Commerce, who stressed incentives the department can provide more rural counties such as Winston County for industries seeking to boost their employment thus providing an economic boost for the county.
Joining Canfield as keynote speakers were Senator Reed as well as David Roberson, president of the Industrial Development Authority of Winston County Alabama, who discussed the economic strengths already in place in Winston County, citing specifically the recent grand opening of Winston Homebuilders providing up to 150 to 200 jobs in the Double Springs area.
