Travel advisory in effect for county roads

WINSTON COUNTY - Winston County Commission Chairman David Cummings reports that, as of Sunday night, Jan. 25, a check of various roads in Winston County showed that moisture from recent rainfall has dried, but since temperatures are drastically  dropping into the teens, a travel advisory is  in effect for all county roads, due to the potential for ice on roadways and bridges. Travel is not advised but if necessary, motorists need to use extreme caution due to possible black ice and slick road conditions, Cummings said.

Haleyville, Winston County schools virtual Friday

HALEYVILLE - Due to secondary roads still being deemed impassible  as of Thursday morning as well as a water issue at Haleyville  City schools that could pose a problem about ice, the schools   will be virtual this Friday January 19, announced superintendent Dr Holly Sutherland.

"We are not risking employee or student safety by trying to open school when it is not safe to do so," Sutherland emphasized.

Sutherland encouraged all students to refer to their grade level and  classroom platforms,  online work platforms and iReady or their virtual assignments.
