DOUBLE SPRINGS - Here are the results for the municipal election held in Double Springs Tuesday, August 26:

Mayor:

Neil Nielsen   19

Incumbent Mayor Elmo Robinson chose not to seek reelection.

There will be a runoff for Double Springs Town Council Place 3, the only council seat that had competition.   Kathy Cole had 120 votes, Mark Taylor had 92 votes and Travis Fichtner had 35 votes.  Because no candidate received 50 percent of the vote plus 1, there will be a runoff election in a few weeks.

WINSTON COUNTY - The future of municipal government in three locations in Winston County will be decided this Tuesday, Aug. 26, when voters head to the polls to cast their ballots for their choice of such vital offices as mayor and council.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - The future of certain title programs in state and local schools remains uncertain with the federal executive branch Office of Management and Budget withholding congressionally-approved funding for those programs, beginning at the new fiscal year on Oct. 1.

Cemetery transformed through Eagle Scout project

DOUBLE SPRINGS - A project developed to better recognize the graves of veterans buried at Double Springs Memorial Cemetery by creating the town’s first memorial honoring all veterans, has been personal to each person who participated.

DOUBLE SPRINGS - Good news came to the Winston County Board of Education, at their Monday, April 28, meeting, when they received a “materially correct” audit report, meaning no financial discrepancies were found by the Alabama Department of Examiners of Public Accounts.
