Youth fishing derby back in Bankhead June 3

BANKHEAD NATIONAL FOREST - The Bankhead Community Youth Fishing Derby returns this year during National Fishing and Boating Week and ahead of National Get Outdoors Day (June 10). This free event will be Saturday, June 3, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Black Warrior Work Center, located 15 miles north of Double Springs at 3730 Hwy. 33, Moulton.
The derby is open to youth ages 5-12, who must be supervised by a parent or guardian. Children under 5 may participate, but are not eligible to compete for prizes. The pond will be open to everyone for fishing after the derby.
Participants must bring bait and tackle for the catfish with which the pond will be stocked. Those who want to take their fish home should bring a bucket and ice.
There were will be activities for children before the fishing starts, including a casting contest, a BB gun shooting gallery, archery, crafts and learning stations.
Free hotdogs will be available for everyone at lunch time.

The event is hosted by the U.S. Forest Service and Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries.
