WINSTON COUNTY - Haleyville Mayor Ken Sunseri and Winston County Commissioner David Cummings are advising that road conditions continue to worsen due to wintry weather, and that all county and City roads have been deemed impassible. The mayor is encouraging residents if at all possible to stay at home. The warming shelter is open at the community safe room located below City Hall. The mayor also expects road conditions to worsen throughout the day.
Double Springs Mayor Elmo Robinson is encouraging residents to stay at home and warm. The Double Springs Municipal Building is open as a warming center on an emergency basis, the mayor says.
Bear Creek Mayor Rob Taylor noted city streets are iced over and are being deemed impassible. "I'm on County Highway 65... The road is solid white. It is ice" Taylor reported. "It's probably going to get worse. It's bad right now."
The basement of the Bobby Bishop Community Center is open as a warming center with police monitoring it periodically, Taylor said.
