American Legion Auxiliary in Haleyville accepting applications for Veterans Banners this month

Whitehead Post 33 American Legion Auxiliary Members Michelle Baggett and Jean Mauldin display one of the veterans banners hung in Haleyville twice a year. The Auxiliary is accepting applications for banners each Saturday in February at the American Legion Post in Haleyville.

HALEYVILLE - The Auxiliary for American Legion Whitehead Post 33 in Haleyville is accepting applications for veterans banners every Saturday in February from 9-11 a.m. at the American Legion Post, located off of Highway 13 North in Haleyville.

Auxiliary members will be on hand to assist applicants and accept photos for the banners.  Please bring an 8x10 or smaller photo.  Along with the photo, information for the veteran to be honored will need to include his or her rank, branch of service, years of service, any combat medals of valor won and any other pertinent information the veteran or his or her family or friend wants included.  Photos will be returned.

The double-sided banners are $175, including the hardware needed to hang them.  The City of Haleyville graciously stores and hangs the banners for the Auxiliary.  They will be hung prior to Memorial Day in May and will remain up through the city's 9-1-1 Festival, which will be held May 31-June 1 this year.  The banners are also on display at Veteran's Day each year.

Yard or memorial banners are also available for purchase for $30.  These do not come with the hardware.

For more information, please call  Auxiliary Member Michelle Baggett at (205) 952-1200 or Auxiliary Member Jean Mauldin at (205) 269-9935.
