Back-to-school sales tax holiday July 19-21

WINSTON COUNTY - School will be back in session within weeks, which means its time to do back-to-school shopping.
Haleyville City Schools will be providing most school supplies for students again this year, they have announced on their Facebook page. As of press time Monday, July 8, the Alabamian was unaware if Winston County Schools or Marion County Schools would be providing school supplies this year.
Regardless,  parents will still need to get backpacks, new clothes and other items their children need, and the  sales tax holiday July 19-21  is a great time to get these items.
Alabama's 19th annual sales tax holiday for school-related items begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 19, and lasts until midnight, Sunday, July 21.  The state will waive its sales tax on school-related supplies and clothing. More than 300 cities and counties throughout Alabama also waive their local taxes, with most local municipalities participating.  County taxes will also be waived during this period. In some areas, the savings can reach 10 percent.

• school supplies valued at $50 or less per item;
• books that cost $30 or less each; and
